Multiple Scoring Setups

The typical scenario for uploading results is that there is one club, using one scoring program. The setups for this scenario were described in other manual pages. However, sometimes this is not enough. This happens when:

  • the club uses more than one scoring program. This typically happens if the club is in transition from one scoring program to a new scoring program.
  • one PC is used to score for more than one club. This situation arises when the same person is directing for more than one club and he/she is using the same portable computer to do the job.

Nothing special needs to be done if clubs upload results via web (ACBLScore) or email (Rapscore, Scorebridge). However, if the result upload is done via ShipResults (ASE 8/9, Compass, Compscore 2/3) then we need some extra setup so that ShipResults knows how to tag results so that they appear on the right web site. This is achieved via profiles. Each profile contains:

  • The scoring program used for scoring.
  • The activation code for the club
  • The directory where the result files are stored by the scoring program.

You have to make sure that each club/scoring program combination has a separate directory where the results are stored. If all scoring programs or clubs get their results stored in the same place, ShipResults has no way of knowing which results belong to which club.

If you are using ASE 8/9 on a single computer to score for 2 or more clubs, you MUST create a separate Windows user for each club, because that is how ASE 8/9 will allow you to have separate settings for each club. For instructions on how to create additional Windows users, click on Windows' Start button, then Help and Support, and then in the search box type in create new user and the link to instructions will appear.

After creating a new user you need to log out, then log in as a new user and run ASE 8 and configure it for the new club. Don't forget to check instructions on how to set up ASE 8 for web publishing of results, paying attention to nominate a different results directory for the new club.

Once you've configured, if needed, the scoring program, you need to run ShipResults' Profile Editor in order to tell ShipResults about additional locations to check for new results. When creating a new profile, make sure that the results directory you enter matches the one you configured in your scoring program. The mismatch is the most common source of errors. After you saved the new profile and finished with the Profile Editor, reboot your PC and you're ready.

NOTE: you must run Profile Editor as an administrator. This means:

  • in Windows XP , the user you are running as must have administrative privileges
  • in Windows Vista or 7, you must run the program by first doing a right-mouse click over Profile Editor in the menu and then choose Run as administrator from the pop-up menu

Profile Editor checks on start up if it has sufficient privileges to run, and will refuse to continue unless started with administrative privileges.

Once it is all set up, if you are using ASE 8 to score for more than 1 club, you only need to REMEMBER which club you'll be scoring for and log in as a Windows user that's dedicated for that purpose.
